Making A Difference In Our Communities
Announcing a $1.75 Million Nonprofit Hardship Fund in Response to COVID-19
On March 23, 2020, the Sempra Energy Foundation announced a Nonprofit Hardship Fund to provide expedited grants to a range of small to medium-sized nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations serving the health, education, welfare or social services needs of individuals and families significantly affected by COVID-19. These resources were set aside for communities where our employees live and work, in California, Texas and Louisiana.
On April 3, the online application was shut down due to a significant volume of requests. There were over 2,200 applicants and 965 qualified proposals submitted.
We have now distributed the full $1.75 million across all three states to help meet basic needs for vulnerable populations and will be assessing unmet needs and factoring these considerations into our future planning.
The Sempra Energy Foundation is a private 501(c)(3) foundation based in San Diego, CA. The Foundation was founded in 2007 by Sempra Energy, a San Diego-based energy infrastructure company with more than $60 billion in total assets reported in 2019.
The Sempra Energy companies' more than 18,000 employees deliver energy with purpose to over 35 million consumers worldwide. As part of the company’s commitment to investing in the communities it serves, the Sempra Energy Foundation and Sempra employees have donated more than $100 million over the past five years.
We were founded on the principle that we can help make a difference through partnerships that produce sustainable and responsible change. Over time we have invested in communities where our employees live and work, responded to a wide range of natural disasters, and encouraged community collaboration.
We also support the personal engagement and involvement of employees of the Sempra Energy family of companies. And going forward, we’re looking to advance our values of doing the right thing, championing people and shaping the future.
