Energy is central to nearly every major challenge and opportunity in the world. Yet, billions lack access to clean fuels and technologies, and nearly a billion lack access to modern energy of any kind.
Even in North America, millions of people either don’t have access or can’t afford to use it. Energy access – whether driven by poverty, affordability, or availability – is crucial to health and prosperity: it enables income, clean air and water, safe food, and economic progress. Cleaner energy makes sustainable development possible; indeed, cleaner and more accessible forms of energy make everything possible.
The Sempra Energy Foundation is exploring the issue of energy access and making a limited number of strategic contributions to energy access projects in North America – specifically, in California, Texas and Mexico.
